Artist's Statement Re-using Bamboo [ Recycling of the Material after the Festival ] After the festival, some bent bamboo poles become fragile and can no longer be used in construction. These bamboo poles are shredded and recycled into fertilizer. The fertilizer is transported to nearby tong lau rooftops to grow bamboo for the following year’s festival. Some bamboo structures are reused and transformed into new pavilions. Bamboo craftsmen and the public collaborate to redesign the structures, extending the life cycle of bamboo craftsmanship and highlighting its sustainability.
